Things better to do in preparation for October

This year’s autumn equinox, and my October-start planner…

I couldn’t quite decide how I should write here for a while… and so I just kept putting it off.

Yesterday, though, something finally clicked.

“tidying up”

I’m not going to write about  it as such, but…

This phrase has been hovering in my mind recently, and I suspect it’s been on the minds of many others too.

If you find yourself thinking, “Yes, that’s it,” then you’re in tune with the current flow.

Look up at the sky and you’ll see it. The planets’ positions show it. The cosmic rhythm makes perfect sense: this is simply how it is. From this year’s autumn equinox, a new stage begins.

So yes—I’ll be keeping an astrology journal here.

Well... My planner starts in October. The reason is simple: whenever I see a cute one in the shops, I can’t resist buying it early. These days I stick with my favourite brand, Matoka, so I don’t pick them up at random anymore—but the habit of starting in October has stayed with me. I do think it’s important to cherish our own little rituals.

And so: “This year’s autumn equinox, with an October-start planner”

It almost sounds like the name of a French menu item, but this month I’ll write with the feeling of taking off on a runway.

By the way, from next time I don’t plan to include such a long preface. Honestly, I want to keep this process light and mechanical.

[9–15 September: Weekly Astrology Reading from Vedic Astrology]

Theme: “Sharpen your thoughts, settle your heart, prepare for the next season.”

In the afterglow of the lunar eclipse, this is a week when clarity of mind returns. Mental sharpness increases, though the heart may still feel a little hazy. The days may bring ups and downs, but try to ride those waves smoothly.

1. After-effects of the lunar eclipse: emotions stirred deep within

The full moon of 7 September was a “lunar eclipse” that coincided with Ketu, the karmic planet. Its effects linger into this week, bringing waves of unease or old memories surfacing—things you thought were finished may reappear. It feels like something is ending, yet you cannot quite switch over. In truth, this phase has been ongoing since the spring equinox. It is an important period for noticing the turbulence, putting things in order one by one, and preparing for the next stage that begins from the autumn equinox.

2. Mercury in Virgo: a week of sharp thinking

Mercury (planet of thought, language, and analysis) is currently in Virgo, where it performs at its best. Use your head and you’ll find organisation, planning, and analysis flow easily. Perfect for clearing backlogs, revising old studies, or improving work, paperwork, and communication. This is the week to feel that “when the mind is tidy, the heart feels lighter.” It’s also a time when you can finally reach your own answers on things you’ve been unsure about. Hold a little strategy meeting with yourself.

3. Mercury Cazimi (13 September): a moment of clarity

Around the 13th, Mercury and the Sun align exactly in what’s known as “Cazimi.” It’s a moment when you can hold a crystal-clear intention for your feelings and plans. This day is ideal for important discussions, announcements, or decisions. Focus on the most important item and do some clear planning. In negotiations or meetings, your ability will shine. Try putting into words: “What is most important to me?” Writing it down will help you see the way forward.

4. Mars in Leo: energy in action, but beware of impulses

Mars (planet of action, impulse, and passion) is currently in Leo, a sign of self-expression, making it especially powerful. You may feel stronger willpower and the courage to step into something new. But irritation can flare when things don’t go your way. Remember, Mars fuels both anger and action. Try to act with purpose rather than from impulse.

5. Moon–Mars opposition (around 10 September): when heart and action clash

Around the 10th, the Moon opposes Mars, unsettling the balance between feelings and action. You may find yourself thinking, “Why on earth did I say that?” Pause before reacting. It’s easy to lecture or snap at others these days. Instead, write down your anger or restlessness, and step back. When the heart feels unsettled, hold back from acting. Take a break, have some tea, and focus on “rest and observation.”

6. Sun in Leo → towards the autumn equinox: returning to your own centre

The Sun is currently in Leo, the sign of selfhood, moving towards the equinox on 22 September (when day and night are equal). This is a time when the question “What truly matters to me?” arises naturally. Those who have been over-adapting to others can gradually return to themselves. It’s also a period of heightened creativity, leadership, and self-expression. Seize the chance to step into leadership in your own life. To make a clear shift at the equinox, spend these days staying centred in yourself.
